James Bond: Sean Connery’s blunt reaction to Daniel Craig casting | Films | Entertainment

By the end of the week, the latest generation of James Bond will be brought to an end. Daniel Craig‘s fifth and final film, No Time To Die, will end his version of 007’s story once and for all, before a new actor is ushered into the series. A lot has changed in the Bond franchise since its inception in 1962, which had Sean Connery playing the hero in Dr No. Two years after Craig’s debut in Casino Royale, Connery gave his opinion on the newer, bolder Bond.

Connery responded to the criticisms that Craig was “too blonde” to play the iconic spy.

He said: “I think Daniel Craig is a terrific choice.”

The actor then spoke about the change in direction for the series, which went a little more rough-and-tumble than previous iterations of 007.

He mused: “I think they’re going back to a more realistic type of Bond movie as I don’t think they could have gone much further with the special effects.” (Via Daily Mail)

Connery was also asked about whether he would make a return to the series.

He explained: “I wouldn’t mind coming back as a Bond villain. But I don’t think they would pay me enough money.”

The Scottish actor, who starred in six Bond films, was also quizzed about “losing” his 007 status.

He responded: “It’s not something that’s ever likely to happen. It’s with me until I go to the box.”

Craig went on: “Sir Sean Connery will be remembered as Bond and so much more.

“He defined an era and a style. The wit and charm he portrayed on screen could be measured in megawatts; he helped create the modern blockbuster.

“He will continue to influence actors and filmmakers alike for years to come. My thoughts are with his family and loved ones.”

He finished the comment with a reference to the star’s love of golf, saying: “Wherever he is, I hope there is a golf course.”

Connery’s son, Jason, commented: “We are all working at understanding this huge event as it only happened so recently, even though my dad has been unwell for some time.

“A sad day for all who knew and loved my dad and a sad loss for all people around the world who enjoyed the wonderful gift he had as an actor.”

James Bond No Time To Die hits cinemas on Thursday.
