James Bond Rami Malek: No Time To Die villain’s identity confirmed by director | Films | Entertainment

No Time To Die introduces Rami Malek as the final Daniel Craig James Bond villain, Safin. Many fans have presumed the character is secretly the infamous mastermind Dr No. Historically, Dr No is one of Bond’s biggest nemeses, originally played by Joseph Wiseman in the 1962 movie Dr No, but it looks like he will not be making an appearance in the upcoming picture.

As soon as the title of the latest Bond movie was announced, speculation began that the villain of the movie would be the legendary Dr No.

Director of the final Craig film, Fukunaga, recently announced this is not the case.

He said: “This is a new villain. He’s not, as some have speculated, Dr No.”

The director added: “Hopefully, he’ll be one that is lasting in some way.” (Via SFX Magazine)

While this information could be a little disappointing to Bond fans, it does inject a degree of creativity into the franchise.

On the other hand, Fukunaga could be telling a white lie to keep the secret safe in order to surprise lifelong fans – much like how Benedict Cumberbatch once claimed he was not playing Khan in Star Trek: Into Darkness when he definitely was.

Fukunaga later went on to discuss the concept of a Bond villain in 2021.

He said: “It’s so hard to term [Safin] as a villain in this world anymore. We live in a very educated, saturated world of converse narratives. Anyone can be vilified or turned into a hero.”

Fukunaga added: “Making a villain that doesn’t seem laughable, that you can take seriously, where it’s still frightening what they’re attempting to do and why they must be stopped, is more difficult than people actually acknowledge.”

No Time To Die hits cinemas in the UK at the end of the month, and all eyes are already on who could take over from Craig once his tenure has come to an end.

The bookies have been looking at a number of British actors across Hollywood to take over from the 53-year-old.

At the moment, Ladbrokes have placed Bridgerton star Regé-Jean Page as the favourite with a staggering 5/6.

The Netflix star isn’t a runaway winner at the moment, however. He is closely being followed by Venom and Dunkirk actor Tom Hardy.

Hardy has a powerful 4/1 on becoming Bond after Craig and even garnered the approval of a previous 007 actor.

Last month Pierce Brosnan spoke to People about his pick for 007, saying: “There’s Tom Hardy out there as well. Tom can really chew the furniture up, just be a ball boy – both men can.”

James Bond No Time To Die hits cinemas on September 30.
