Duchess of Cambridge: Her engagement ring worth three times more than Meghan Markle’s

According to engagement ring specialist Max Stone at Steven Stone, Meghan Markle’s 2017 engagement ring is estimated to be worth around £96,729. Prince Harry designed the trilogy ring from ethically sourced stones in Botswana.

The Duchess of Cambridge’s engagement ring on the other hand is now worth £300,000 according to Max Stone, which was originally the ring given to Princess Diana by Prince Charles.

The timeless legacy of Kate’s engagement ring has ensured its value remains high.

The Duchess’s ring is a 12-carat oval sapphire surrounded by 14 natural diamonds and set on an 18k white gold band.

A study of 2,000 adults conducted by the Natural Diamond Council, saw Kate’s engagement ring being voted the world’s most popular engagement band.

Her ring continues to be the most popular choice for engagement rings a decade after the royal wedding in 2011.

Lisa Levinson, head of the Natural Diamond Council, said in 2020: “Kate Middleton’s ring is instantly recognisable with stunning white diamonds contrasting the strong blue colour of the sapphire.

“In the study, the colour blue was second – beaten only by white – as the most popular shade of diamond for an engagement ring.”

Meghan Markle’s engagement ring failed to make the top spot for most popular engagement rings conducted in November 2020.

Royal jewellers used the same gold nugget to craft wedding rings for Queen Elizabeth II, Princess Margaret, Princess Anne, and Princess Diana.

After so many rings, little of the original nugget remained, however, the British Royal Legion gifted Queen Elizabeth with a second nugget of Welsh gold in the 1980s.

From this, jewellers were able to make wedding rings for the Duchess of York, the Earl and Countess of Wessex, and Prince Charles and Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall in 2005.

In 2010, Queen Elizabeth presented the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge with gold from this nugget for the creation of Kate’s wedding ring.
